What is a Pixiebob?
Pixiebob
The Pixie-bob is domestic cat with a visual similarity to the North American Coastal Red Bobcat. The Pixiebob breed came about through breeding of Legend Cats™, and is referred to as "dogs in disguise" because of their unusual intelligence, loyalty, and trainability.
Stone Island's Pixie
Pixie is the breed's namesake. She was the result of the crossing of two Legend Cats™. The desire to reproduce her looks, which were reminiscent of the Coastal Red Bobcat, prompted the start of the Pixie-bob breed.
Blue List Pixiebob™
A program which gives each cat/kitten with approved bloodlines a certificate of authenticity when proven by pedigree to have Stone Island's Pixie in his/her background, and meeting strict criteria for overall appearance.
Legend Cat™
A cat believed to have bobcat ancestry
Polydactyl
A cat with extra toes, not to exceed more than seven toes on any foot, normally occurring on the front feet, though not uncommon to occur on the rear feet also. The Pixie-bob is the only TICA registered breed to include this charming trait in their standard.
Personality
Intelligent beyond belief; busy, but never hyperactive; unusually strong bonds with their family; excellent companions for children; love to travel in the car; easily trained to walk on a leash; will train to fetch (many do this without training!); very clean, with domestic litter box habits; perfect house or apartment pets being non-destructive to home or furniture; extremely quiet with only an occasional chirp or chitter; get along well with other animals.
Appearance
The facial appearance is especially reminiscent of the North American bobcat, with a short, woolly 'standout' coat that feels wild to the touch. The color varies from the light to medium shades of brown spotted tabby, with warm reddish tones. The preferred coat pattern is random spotting, greatly muted by heavy ticking. The naturally short tails range form 1 to 6 inches in length on the average. The feet are large, with fleshy toes that are occasionally polydactyl. The body is muscular, rangy and heavily boned, with a very loose skin and a primordial pouch. The size is medium to large; males weigh 12 to 22 pounds, and females are approximately 1/3 smaller, weighing 8 to 12 pounds.
